Wagering Guide

At the Company it is our goal to make your wagering experience as Easy and as Exciting as possible. We are The Only Choice for the beginning, as well as the seasoned bettor. With our extensive Wagering Menu, you are always assured to get all the action you desire.

We are happy to provide this wagering guide for your convenience. Please click the links at the top of this frame that are of interest to you. Please find below a Quick Reference Table for the wagers we offer on major sports. The Company also offers wagering on many other miscellaneous events that are not listed here. Please contact us directly for further details.

• Races must be run within one week of the scheduled date for your bet to have action.
• In the event that the driver or team wagered on for the outright championship does not start the race, the bet is considered action.
• The official winner at the conclusion of the race will be the winner for betting purposes.
• Both drivers in a matchup wager must start the race for the bet to have action.

• Monyeline wagering offered each game.
• Total wagering (over/under) offered each game.
• Run Line offered each game.
• Overnight lines offered each game.

• Winners and losers are official after 5 innings of play unless the home team is leading after 4 1/2 innings.
• If a game is called or suspended, the winner is determined by the score after the last full inning (unless the home team scores to tie, or takes the lead in the bottom half of the inning, in which case the winner is determined by the score at the time the game is called). Monies will be refunded if the home team ties the game and it is then suspended.
• When wagering on total runs (over/under) the game must go 9 innings (8 1/2 if the home team is ahead) to have action.
• Wagers on total runs will be refunded if a pitcher change occurs prior to both listed pitchers throwing at least one pitch.
• Rules for Run Line wagers are the same as those for baseball totals.
• If a game goes past nine full innings and is not completed (I.E. suspended, curfew, rain delay, etc) there will be action on Total and Run Line wagers.
• A pitcher is deemed a starting pitcher after throwing one pitch.
• Teams must play for there to be action, all wagers included, all leagues included.

• Moneylines will be offered on all MLB and College World Series games.
• Side (moneyline) wagers will be accepted in the following manner:
  • Action (any starting pitcher) - Team against team, regardless of the starting pitcher.
  • Listed Pitchers (both specified pitchers) - If the starting pitchers are not exactly as listed when the "Listed" wager is placed, your wager will be deemed "No Action".
  • Bettors (your teams selected pitcher) - If the listed pitcher of your selected team does not start the game, your wager will be deemed "No Action".
  • Opposing (opposite teams selected pitcher)-If the listed pitcher of the opposing team does not start the game, your wager will be deemed "No Action".

• Totals (over/under) will be offered on all MLB games.
• Total Wagers are "Listed", and will be deemed "No Action" in the event of a pitching change.
• Total Wagers may be parlayed to the moneyline of the same game and other contests. A total wager may not be parlayed to any other event from the same game.

• Run Lines will be offered on all MLB games.
• Run Lines wagers are "Listed", and will be deemed "No Action" in the event of a pitching change.
• Run Line Wagers may be parlayed to other contests, but a Run Line Wager may not be parlayed to any other event from the same game.

1st 5-Inning Line

The 1st 5 innings line will be considered official and be graded as soon as both teams have finished batting in the 5th inning. Listed pitchers must start for action.

Home Run Line

The Home Run Line has the same rules as run lines and totals.

Either Team Score in 1st

Either Team Score in 1st? Will be graded YES when a team scores in the 1st and NO when both teams have batted in the 1st without scoring. Bets on NO have action after a complete inning.All bets are action and bets and prices stand as written. Bets will be considered official when graded despite what may or may not happen after 1st inning (i.e. a rained out game after one inning.)

Baseball Props

Props involving "firsts" such as will a pitcher 1st pitch be a strike or ball or will a batter reach base his 1st time up will be considered official and be graded as they happen. All other props have same rules as run lines and totals.

Overnight Lines

The Company is proud to be one of the few Sportsbooks to offer Overnight Lines. These are wagering lines on the following day's matchups, which will be posted within one hour of the start of final game of the day. There is a limit of $250 on these lines, which will be lifted at 10:30 AM EST the following morning.

• First half lines will be offered on all NBA and NCAA contests.
• Second half lines will be offered on all NBA and the majority of NCAA contests, and will be offered within 5 minutes of the end of the first half of the contest.
• Wagers may be parlayed to other contests, but a first half wager may not be parlayed to any other wager from the same game.
• No teaser plays or buying of points is allowed on Halftime Wagers.
• Overtime periods are included as part of the second half.
• The full half (first or second) must be played for action.

• Overtime scoring is not included in Fourth Quarter wagers.

• Moneylines will be offered on most NBA and NCAA contests.
• Moneyline wagers may be parlayed to other contests, but a moneyline wager may not be parlayed to any other wager from the same game.

• Point Buying up to a maximum of 3 points will be offered on all NBA and NCAA contests.
• Point Buying will not be offered on halftime, quarter or moneyline wagers.

Proposition Wagers

The Company offers a wide variety of proposition wagers. Because these wagers deserve special explanation, we have dedicated an entire section for this. Please click the link at the top of this window labeled "Props" for complete details.

General Rules
Our Wagering Menu for Boxing includes, but is not limited to, the following Exciting Wagers:

• Moneyline for each bout
• Round Propositions
• In the event of a draw, if the draw is on the board as one of the options available to wager on, those wagers on the draw are paid, and wagers on either fighter are not refunded.
• In the event of a draw, if the draw is not on the board as one of the options available to wager on, wagers on either fighter are refunded.
• When the bell is sounded signifying the start of the first round, the bout is considered official for betting purposes, regardless of the scheduled length or title.
• In rounds proposition bets, the fight must go the originally scheduled length for action.
• A full round is only considered for wagering purposes when the bell sounds signifying the end of said round.
• The official stopping of a round before the sounding of the bell does not constitute a full round.
• If one or both fighters fail to answer the bell for a round, the fight is judged to have finished in the previous round.
• If the scheduled number of rounds is changed, all bets on pick the round are void.
  

Moneyline Wagers
The Company is proud to offer moneyline wagering on Boxing, both online and over the telephone. Moneyline Wagering is simply wagering on the contest based on a given price rather than a pointspread. The fighter wagerd on just has to win the fight.

Example

A player could choose one of two wagers on the following matchup: Holyfield -340 Vs. Lewis +260. If Holyfield wins then the player laid $340.00 to win $100.00. If Lewis wins then the player who bet $100.00 wins $260.00.

Round Propositions

The Company is proud to offer round propositions on Boxing, both online and over the telephone. Round Propositions are most like Over/Under wagers. The fight simply must go Over or Under the number of rounds wagered on.

Example

The Round Proposition line for the Holyfield Vs. Lewis fight is posted at: Over 9 1/2 rounds -200 Under 9 1/2 rounds +180.

A player could choose one of two Round Proposition Wagers on this fight: Over 9 1/2 -200 - If the fight goes more than 9 1/2 rounds, then the player laid $200.00 to win $100.00. Under 9 1/2 +180 - If the fight goes less than 9 1/2 rounds, then the player who bet $100.00 wins $180.00.

We take Action on all NFL, CFL, AFL and NCAA events. Our Wagering Menu for American Football includes, but is not limited to, the following Exciting Wagers:

• Pointspread and Total for the entire game
• Pointspread and Total for each individual half
• Pointspread and Total for each individual quarter
• Moneyline for each game
• Proposition Wagers
• Point Buying
• For betting purposes, unless otherwise stipulated, games are official after 55 minutes of play.
• Teams must play for there to be action, all wagers included, all leagues included.

• First half lines will be offered on all NFL and NCAA contests, and will be released mid-week, allowing ample time to get action on these events.
• Second half lines will be offered on all NFL and the majority of NCAA contests, and will be offered within
• 5 minutes of the end of the first half of the contest.
• Wagers may be parlayed to other contests, but a first half wager may not be parlayed to any other wager from the same game.
• No teaser plays or buying of points is allowed on Halftime Wagers.
• Overtime periods are included as part of the second half.
• The full half (first or second) must be played for action.

• Quarter lines will be released the day of the game, allowing ample time to get action on these events.
• All quarter lines will come down at kickoff.
• Wagers may be parlayed to other contests, but a quarter wager may not be parlayed to any other wager from the same game.
• Overtime scoring is not included in Fourth Quarter wagers.

• Moneylines will be offered on most NFL and NCAA contests, and will normally be available on the morning of the game.
• Moneyline wagers may be parlayed to other contests, but a moneyline wager may not be parlayed to any other wager from the same game.

• Point Buying to a maximum of 3 points will be offered on all NFL and NCAA contests.
• Bettors will be charged an additional 10% vigorish to buy on, and/or off of the number 3 in the NFL.
• Point Buying will not be offered on halftime, quarter or moneyline wagers.

Proposition Wagers

The Company offers a wide variety of proposition wagers. Because these wagers deserve special explanation, we have dedicated an entire section for this. Please click the link at the top of this window labeled "Props" for complete details.

Future Book Wagers

The Company is proud to offer Future Book Wagers. A "futures" wager is a bet placed on an event that is scheduled to occur at some future date. For instance, prior to the beginning of the regular season for each major sport, odds will be established for each team to win their individual division, conference and seasonal championship. Another type of "future" wager that has become extremely popular is the over/under wager for the total number of victories for the entire season for a given team.

Other "future" wagering propositions that are offered at The Company include major Horse Races, such as the three "Triple Crown" races, which are The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and The Belmont Stakes. Major golf tournaments such as The Masters, U.S. Open, PGA Championship and The British Open. Tennis Championships like the Wimbledon Tournament, The French, Australian, and U.S. Opens. Auto races like the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500. And last, but definitely not least, blockbuster events like the Super Bowl each year, or the Olympics every 4 years. The Company offers "future" wagers on many more events as well. If you have a favorite event that you don't find odds on, please contact us directly, and we will make a line for you!

It is possible for a "future" bet to become a winner prior to the end of the regular season. However when the bet is conditional on a certain number of games being played, the wager must wait until those games have been played before the bet is graded.

• In the event a tournament does not go the specified number of completed holes (usually 72), and the tournament is shortened by PGA officials, then the leader at the end of the number of holes determined to be official by the PGA shall be the winner.
• In head to head matchups, both golfers must tee off in order have action.
• In the event that one player or the other is disqualified or withdraws after teeing off, the other golfer will be the winner of the matchup.
• The most completed holes and the lowest score for either golfer is the winner of the matchup.
• If the players complete the same number of holes, then the player with the lowest score wins.
• For betting purposes, if the players are still tied then the wager will be a push, unless they are tied for first place.
• If both golfers in a match-up are in a playoff a) winner of play-off wins the match-up and b) all other playoff participants tie each other
• Dead Heat Rule: Where there is a dead heat for any wager – for example where there are 3 players tied for 4^th place and a market has been offered on players to finish in the top 4 of a tournament – then the amount wagered is divided by the number of participants involved in the dead heat.
• The full odds are then paid to the divided portion, with the remainder of the stake money being lost.
• For Place/Show/Top 4/Top 10 betting - when there is a dead heat where the number of tied participants exceeds the places available for that particular bet, the stake money/amount wagered is multiplied by the number of places on offer but divided by the number of tied participants.
• The full odds are then paid to the divided stake, with the remainder of the stake money being lost.
  Example - a 3 way tie for third on a top four bet would result in the stake money /amount wagered being multiplied by 2 but divided by 3.
• Dead Heat rules do not apply to events where a price is offered for the draw or tie.
• Finishing Positions - If a player is involved in a 5 way tie for 5th, as an example, he is sharing 5th,6th ,7th,8th and 9th place. His finishing position is calculated by adding the sum of all the positions (ie 5+6+7+8+9 =35) and then dividing this figure by the no of players involved in the tie. His actual finishing position would be 35 divided by 5, ie 7.
• Winners' Score - All wagers will be void if 72 holes are not completed.

• Moneyline and/or Puck Line for each game
• Total (over/under) for each game

• Moneyline and/or Puck Line Wagers

The Company is proud to offer both Moneyline and Puck Line wagering, both online and over the telephone. Moneyline Wagering is simply wagering on the contest based on a given price rather than a pointspread. The team wagered on just has to win the game. Puck Line Wagering is simply wagering on the contest based on a pointspread and a moneyline combined. The team wagered on must win by the pointspread.

Example - Moneyline Wager

The posted line on a hockey game is the New Jersey Devils -155 at the Dallas Stars +135.

A player could choose one of two moneyline wagers on this matchup: Devils -155 - If the Devils win then the player laid $155.00 to win $100.00. Stars +135 - If the Stars win then the player who bet $100.00 wins $135.00.

Example - Puck Line Wager

The posted line on a hockey game is the New Jersey Devils -1 1/2 +130 at the Dallas Stars +1 1/2 -150.

A player could choose one of two Puck Line Wagers on this matchup: Devils -1 1/2 +130 - If the Devils win by 2 goals or more, then the player who bet $100.00 wins $130.00. Stars +1 1/2 -150 - If the Stars win the game, or lose by only one goal, then the player laid $150.00 to win $100.00.

Total (over/under) Wagers

The Company is proud to offer Total (over/under) betting, both online and over the telephone. On an over/under wager, the total goals of the game by both teams, extra innings included, must fall over or under the side selected.

Example

The posted total on a hockey game is 4 1/2 Under -125 Over +105.

A player could choose one of two Total (over/under) wagers on this matchup: Over 4 1/2 +105 - If the total goals of both teams combined are more than 4 1/2, then the player bet $100.00 to win $105.00. Under 4 1/2 -125 - If the total goals of both teams combined are less than 4 1/2, then the player who laid $125.00 wins $100.00.

• The Company system will allow wagers up to 2 minutes before the scheduled post time. The time left to wager on each race is made available on the website. Any tickets placed after this time will be void.
• When placing a wager on a horse they will generally be identified by name not the number.
• Payouts may vary according to bet type and track. In most cases full track odds are paid with a maximum payoff. There is no maximum payoff for Win, Place and Show, which will be paid out at track odds. Exotics will have a maximum payoff - please see the table located elsewhere on the site for specific payoffs.
• In the event there is a wager made with no track results or payout information posted, the wager will be refunded. An example of this would be, 1) scratch horses reducing the number of entries, 2) no payout results (the race did not run).
• Tickets cannot be graded until the official results have been posted. Funds will be credited to your account usually within 10 to 15 minutes after the official results have been posted.
• Company does not offer Consolation Payouts because we do not belong to the Pari-Mutuel pool. We do not have pool money that must be returned to the bettors.
• A horse is scratched when it is listed as an entry but does not run in the race. A horse may be scratched early in the day or minutes before the start of the race.
• Scratches on Multi Race Bets - Any scratches after the first leg of the multi race ticket that has been completed with a loss will result in a losing ticket. An example would be if your first race lost and your horse in the next race was scratched. The ticket would be a losing ticket due to your combination including a loser. If the selection on the earlier stage of the multi-race bet are correct, then the scratches occur in the middle or later legs, this would allow those multi-race bets to be refunded. (This is different from the race track that produce winners via consolation payout.)
• Coupled Horses - Horses that belong to one owner or under one trainer running in the same race are “coupled” together. When you bet on one you also get the other; you get horse 1 and horse 1a, for example. When one of the coupled horses wins, both horses win. In the case that both horses finish, the higher payout will be applied. In the event of a scratch you have action, unless both coupled horses scratch.
• Field Entry - When there are a large amount of horses running in a race, several horses are grouped together as field horses. For payouts and refunds, the same rules as Coupled Entry apply.
• Horse Tickets must be finalized before the race starts. Any wagers placed after the start of the race will be "no action" and all monies will be refunded.
  
  * Full Track Odds + 10% is offered at selected tracks only.

• One If Bet can contain two to seven individual bets.
• If Bets must be made prior to the start time of the earliest event.
• Bets must be made in the order of each event's start time
• The first bet amount may not exceed the normal house limits.
• Additional bets in the sequence may be any amount, not exceeding the amount of the original bet plus any winnings from preceding bets.
• The first bet is always placed unless it is considered a no action event.
• All If Bets at the Company are If Win. This means that the first bet is always placed unless it is considered a no action event.
• Each subsequent bet is placed only if the previous bet wins.
• If any bet in the If Win series loses, ties or is considered no action, then all subsequent bets on the betting ticket are considered no action.

Baseball (moneyline) Parlay Payoffs

Because of the moneyline used in baseball, there are no set payoffs for tying a number of teams together in parlays. Payoffs are determined by a simple formula that changes the moneyline into a decimal number and combines it with the other lines in the parlay. The first step is to change the moneyline into a decimal value. Use the chart below for this purpose.

Values are equivalent to one dollar.

The return includes the $75 bet.

Remember to always add $1 to the payoff price to figure all parlays.

Please Note: All Baseball Side Parlays are "action."  Run Line & Total selections within your parlay will be voided should there be a pitching change. Round Robin Parlays

The Company is proud to offer Round Robin parlays. A Round Robin is simply a nickname for parlay wagering on a group of selections (at least three or more) that are to be included in a combination of individual parlays. These wagers can be placed very easily at The Company, online or by telephone.

For instance, if a player asked for a $100, three-team Round Robin with teams A, B, and C, he/she is simply requesting a two-team parlay with teams A and B, another parlay with teams A and C, and another with teams B and C, for a total of 3 individual parlays, each for $100. The total amount risked would be $300.

Round Robins get more complex as the number of teams increases. A four-team Round Robin "by twos" for $100 would mean that the bettor wants four teams to be included in a combination of two-team parlays. This would be a total of six individual two-team parlays, for a total risk of $600. If the request is for a Round Robin "by threes", it would include a total of four possible combinations, for a risk of $400.

Example

A player requests a $100 four team Round Robin "by twos", with teams A, B, C and D. The possible combinations would be as follows:

Teams AB $100 to win $260
Teams AC $100 to win $260
Teams AD $100 to win $260
Teams BC $100 to win $260
Teams BD $100 to win $260
Teams CD $100 to win $260


If all four teams win, the player wins $1240, while risking only $600! If one game loses, there is still a profit, even though three of the parlays would lose. The three winners get back $780, plus the $100 laid for each parlay, for a total of $1080. After subtracting $300 for the 3 losers, the player profits $480!

Just like in our standard parlays, selections from every league and sport can be included!

Please Note: The maximum payoff for any one parlay wager shall be $50,000, whatever the stake, or theoretical payout displayed elsewhere on the The Company system.

Proposition Bets (Exotics)

The Company offers a very large menu for Proposition and Exotic Wagering. Simply put, Proposition/Exotic Bets may generally be considered as any wager other than a straight "side" or "over/under" wager. More specifically, these wagers usually involve specific events and occurrences that happen throughout any given game. We have listed some examples for you below.

Props/Exotics will be offered on more marquee games on the betting menu. These include, but are not limited to, Sunday and Monday night NFL games, various NCAA Football games, major Bowl games, and many Playoff and Championship Basketball games. There are also many other miscellaneous events that Props and Exotics will be offered for. Examples and Definitions of Common Props/Exotics

Which team will be the first to score?

The team that scores first in the game (touchdown, field goal or other). This bet will be taken off the board for wagering 15 minutes before the scheduled kickoff time because the coin has been tossed and the team who will have the first possession of the ball is known.

Which team will be the last to score?

The team that scores last in the game (touchdown, field goal or other, overtime included).

Will either team score in the first X minutes and XX seconds of the game?
Will the first score of the game be a touchdown (overtime included)?
Will the last score of the first half be a field goal?
Will either team score in the last 2 minutes of the first half?
Will the team that scores first win the game?
Will either team have 3 or more unanswered scores?

In other words - will either team score 3 times without the other team scoring in between (touchdown, field goal or safety, conversions do not count)?
Will the longest touchdown be over or under XX yards?
Will the shortest touchdown of the game be over or under XX yards?
Which half will have the most points scored in it by both teams combined (overtime included in the second half)?
Will the total field goals made by both teams combined be over/under X?
Will Quarterback X throw an interception?
Will the total rushing yards by Running back X be over or under X?
Which team will have the most penalties?
Will the total sacks made by both teams combined be over or under X?
Will the total fumbles lost by both teams be over or under X?
Will the total points scored by a team be over or under X?
Alternate point spread (works exactly the same as the normal point spread).

• The Company currently offers wagering on a variety of European and American soccer leagues. If you have an event that you would like to wager on, please contact us, and we will make a line for you!
• Wagers on the outcome of a match will be decided in regulation time only. This includes two halves of play and any time the referee compensates for injuries and other stoppages. It does not include periods of extra time or penalty shootouts.
• If a match is suspended before full time is reached and not completed the same day, wagers on the outcome of the match are void and all stakes shall be returned.
• Moneyline with a Draw (tie) - These are the most common odds used for soccer. The bettor has three choices, team A, team B and the draw. If you wager on a team and the game is a tie after 90 minutes of play, you lose. If you wager on the draw and a team wins after 90 minutes of play, you lose. You have three choices to pick the winning result!
• Total Goals Betting- When wagering on game totals (over\under) this only includes goals scored in regulation time (90 minutes plus injury time and stoppage time). This does not include periods of extra time or penalty shootouts.

NOTE : 2nd half soccer wagers count for the full 90 min game result.Example:

2nd half wager on team "A". Team "A" has to win the game.
2nd half wager on team "B". Team "B" has to win the game.
2nd half wager on the draw. The game has to end in a draw at the end of 90min of play.

Straights

The Company is proud to offer the largest selection of Straight Wagers available today. Straight Wagers, also known as Point Spread Wagers, are far and above the most common type of wager placed by sports betting enthusiasts today. These wagers can be placed very easily online or by telephone.

In an attempt to make everything as clear as possible, we have chosen to dedicate a separate section to each specific sport. Each section includes specific details on the various wagers offered, and all necessary rules, regulations and calculations to make your wagering experience easy and exciting.

Teaser Bets

The Company is proud to offer Teaser Bets. A Teaser, simply put, is a parlay like bet on 2 or more teams where the line on each team is adjusted in the favor of the bettor. Teasers are another very exciting way for the sports betting enthusiast to WIN VERY LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY WITH VERY LIMITED RISK!.

Like parlays, all teams wagered on in a teaser must win. The number of teams selected and the number of points selected determines the payout odds. If a selection in the teaser is a push, the teaser will drop to the next lower level, if a lower level is offered for that particular teaser. A push in a two team teaser without a loss will make the entire bet a push. When placing a wager a 3 team super teaser a push will result in a loss on the wager.

At the Company, you may include up to 8 Selections in your teasers. Because Teasers are strictly pointspread type bets, they are allowed only with football and basketball wagering.
These wagers can be placed very easily online or by telephone at the Company.

• 4 Team 13 Point Teaser pays 10 to 13. Bet $130 to win $100.

• 3 Team 7 Point Teaser pays 10 to 13. Bet $130 to win $100.

• Match Betting: In the event of a match being awarded to a player before the full number of sets have been played, match bets will stand on the player officially going through, provided that at least one set has been played.
• If one set has not been completed, all match bets will be void
• In the event of any of the following circumstances taking place all bets will stand: (i) a change of playing surface, (ii) a change of venue or (iii) a change from indoor court to outdoor court or vice versa.

Wagering Terminology

10 Cent Line - The money line difference (10 cents) between what a bettor would lay with the favorite or take back with the underdog; see Dime Line

20 Cent Line - The money line difference (20 cents) between what a bettor would lay with the favorite or take back with the underdog

Across The Board - A method of wagering on a horse to win, place and show

Action - A wager of any kind

Bad Beat - Tough Loss

Beard - Messenger bettor

Buck - $100

Chalk - Favorite

Circled Game - Game where action is limited due to uncertainties about weather, injuries, etc.

Cover - Win by more than the pointspread

Dead Heat - When two horses finish in a tie

Dime - $1000

Dime Line - Slang used to designate the 10 cent money line. The money line difference (10 cents) between what a bettor would lay with the favorite or take back with the underdog; see 10 Cent Line.

Dog - Underdog

Dollar - $100

Double Header - Two separate baseball games played on the same day for the same two teams

Edge - Advantage

Even Money - A wager on which neither side lays any odds or vigorish

Exotic Bet - Action other than a straight bet or parlay

Exposure - The amount of money one actually stands to lose on a game or race

Favorite - The contestant in any given contest that is considered the most talented, or has the best chance to win the contest

Final Four - Final four teams in the NCAA basketball tournament

Firing - Betting a lot. A player who is "firing" is wagering large sums

"Foots" - Slang word used sometimes for football

Futures - Wagers made, or lines/odds posted on an event or outcome taking place some time in the future, e.g. betting during the season on the SuperBowl winner.

Get Down - Make a bet

Grand Slam - The four major tennis tournaments: Wimbledon, Australian Open, French Open, U.S. Open. Also the four major golf tournaments: The Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, PGA Championship (Professional Golf Association). Also in baseball, a homerun with the bases loaded, scoring four runs.

Grand Salami - A slang word for the over/under total for the combined score of all the hockey contests on the schedule for that day

Halftime Line - A line on only the first half, or only the second half scoring of a football or basketball game

Handicapper - One who studies sports and predicts outcomes

Hedge - Bet the opposite of your original wager in order to reduce the amount of exposure you have on a game

Hook - Half point in pointspreads

"Hoops" - Slang word used to indicate the game of basketball

Home Field Advantage - Edge the home team is expected to have as a result of familiarity with the playing area, favorable demographics and effect of travel on the visiting team

Hot Tip - Information the bookmaker is not yet privy to

IBF - International Boxing Federation

Juice - Bookmaker's commission, most often refers to the 11 to 10 football bettors lay on straight wagers. Also known as vigorish.

Lay The Points - A wager on a favorite in a pointspread contest Lay The Price - A wager on a favorite in a moneyline contest

Limit - Maximum bet accepted by the house before the price will be changed

Line - The moneyline, odds, or pointspread of any given contest

Listed Pitcher (LP) - The pitcher or pitchers listed by Las Vegas oddsmakers as probable starting pitchers for a scheduled baseball game

Lock - Easy Winner

Longshot - Large underdog

Middle - To win both sides of a game. For example, if you bet the underdog +3 1/2 and the favorite -2 1/2 and the favorite wins by 3, you've middled the book. The book has been middled.

MLB - Major League Baseball

Moneyline - The amount you must bet to win 100 or the amount you win if you bet 100

MVP - Most Valuable Player. Leagues give MVP Awards to the best regular-season and to the outstanding player in championship games or series

NBA - National Basketball Association

NCAA - National Collegiate Athletic Association

Neutral Site - Arena, court or field where neither side has a home field advantage

NFL - National Football League

NHL - National Hockey League

Nickel - $500

NIT - National Invitational Tournament

Off The Board - Game where no bets are being accepted

Over/Under - A bet on whether the combined total of the points/goals scored by the two teams will exceed or be less than a specified number

Overlay - When the odds on a proposition are in favor of the bettor rather than the house

Overtime - The continuance of a contest that is tied at the end of regulation time until a winner is determined or the maximum number of overtime periods have expired

Parlay - A bet with two or more teams where all the teams must win for the bettor to be successful

Past Post - To make a bet after an event has started

Penny Line - A money line that is adjusted in increments of a penny, or one cent at a time

Pick or Pick'em - A game where neither team is favored

Player - Bettor, gambler

Pointspread - The handicap, or head start, which the favorite gives to the underdog for betting purposes

Press - To bet a larger amount than usual

Price - The moneyline odds on the favorite of a given match

"Pucks" - A slang word used to indicate the game of hockey

Puppy - Underdog

Push - A tie between the bettor and the bookmaker that is the result of the score of an event falling exactly on the pointspread number, or the total points number

Rain Out - A contest that has been canceled because of bad weather

Round Robin - A series of parlays. A three-team round robin consists of one three-team parlay and three two-team parlays

Runner - Messenger bettor; see beard

Ryder Cup - A golf tournament between American and European golfers that is staged every two years

Scalper - One who attempts to profit from the differences in odds from book to book by betting both sides of the same game at different prices

Score - To win a lot of money

Scratch - Withdraw; cancel

Sharp - Wise guy

Side - To win one side and tie the other. For example, if you lay -2 1/2 and take 3 on the same game and the favorite wins by 3 you have sided the book. The book has been sided.

Side Bet/Side Wager - A wager on a particular team, or side, to win a contest

Soft Line - A wagering line that is not current with the true posted line. A line that has been adjusted or moved as a result of action and does not reflect the true line as posted.

Spread - An abbreviated form of pointspread

Stanley Cup - NHL Championship

Steam - When a betting line starts to move quite rapidly. Most "steam games" do not necessarily reflect the "right side", but are games that the mass of bettors somehow decide to key on

Straight Bet - A single wager on a selected side or over/under

Sudden Death - An overtime period in which the first contestant to score is declared the winner of the contest

Superbowl - NFL Championship game

Take A Price - A wager on the underdog in a moneyline contest

Take The Points - A wager on the underdog in a pointspread contest

Teaser - A bet on 2 or more teams where the line on each team is adjusted in the favor of the bettor. Like a Parlay, all selections must be correct for the teaser to win

The Big Dance - The 64 team, post season college basketball championship tournament

Toss Up - Game where the line is close to pick-em

Total - The line on a given contest, representing the combined number of points/goals scored by the two teams; see over/under

Tout Service - A business that sells opinions on sporting events

Underdog - The contestant in any given contest that is considered the least talented, or has the least chance to win the contest

Underlay - When the odds on a proposition are in favor of the house

Value - An overlay

Wise Guy - Established and successful sports bettor
